From WR 4.0 to WR 4.2 in the Starpery catalogue
An archive of the 2024 WR 4.0 announcement and a guide to reading today’s separate WR 4.2 body references.

The April 2024 announcement
Starpery’s April 2024 release described a change in how the internal foam and outer material were combined. The manufacturer framed the project as a balance between reducing the mass of the body and retaining the feel it wanted from the outer material. Later that year, a production update discussed two silicone choices for the WR 4.0 process. We keep those announcements as background for understanding the terminology.
Read the current label on a specific product
The manufacturer now groups products under a WR 4.2 catalogue heading and publishes a corresponding column in its measurement sheet. Some older product snapshots and guides use WR 4.0. Treat the number as a named revision and check the model’s own configuration panel. Matching a short name or a body height alone leaves open which revision will be supplied.
Compare published weights within a consistent scope
The manufacturer’s body chart is useful for seeing how different moulds compare under a named generation. For receiving and storage, the exact build, head and packaging are needed as well. A lighter reference weight can change a shortlist, while the support instructions and order configuration determine how the unit should be handled after delivery.
Ask for the generation in writing
Send the product link and request the generation, silicone type and body reference on one line of the quote. If you see an older review or a dated promotion, use it to identify questions for the seller. The confirmed quote should describe the build and offer available to you today.
